IU Distinguished Professor André Watts elected to American Philosophical Society
Indiana University Distinguished Professor André Watts, Jack I. and Dora B. Hamlin Endowed Chair in Music, has been elected to the American Philosophical Society. A world-renowned and Grammy Award-winning pianist, Watts joined the faculty at the IU Jacobs School of Music in 2004 and was named a distinguished professor in 2017.

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music has named Associate Professor Eric M. Smedley as IU’s new director of athletic bands. The director position includes taking charge of the university’s 300-member Marching Hundred.

Gwyn Richards, dean of the IU Jacobs School of Music, to step down June 30
Gwyn Richards, the David Henry Jacobs Bicentennial Dean of the Jacobs School of Music, will step down June 30, after a successful two-decade career as the school’s leader, to return to the faculty in choral conducting. During Richards’ tenure, the renowned school’s faculty increased, its facilities expanded, and it received unprecedented support from benefactors, including a $40.6 million gift from Barbara Jacobs and her family, after whom the school is named.
