Biography

Thomas Robertello has been associate professor of flute at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music since 1997.

A former member of the Pittsburgh Symphony, The Cleveland Orchestra, and the National Symphony, he has performed as guest principal flutist with the Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, Chicago Philharmonic, Louisiana Philharmonic, Houston Grand Opera, and Nashville Chamber Orchestra. He has toured with the San Francisco Symphony and was guest soloist with that orchestra in Jerod Tate’s “Iholba,” for solo flute, chorus, and orchestra, premiered at the Kennedy Center with members of the National Symphony, which commissioned the work, and recorded with the San Francisco Symphony. He has been featured as a soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony. He has several other solo recordings, including the Telemann solo flute fantasies, all-Bach solo works, music by Faure, several commissioned works, and a live CD from recital performances in Japan.

Robertello’s former faculty positions include with the Asian Youth Orchestra, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Notre Dame, Roosevelt University, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has taught master classes and performed as a soloist throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, China, and South America. His many festival performances as a soloist include the Pacific Music Festival (Japan), Sarasota Music Festival (U.S.), Grand Teton (U.S.), Nara (Japan), Kirishima (Japan), Londrina (Brazil), Dartington (U.K.), Athitos (Greece), Music Anatolia College (Greece), Brevard Music Center (U.S.), National Orchestral Institute (U.S.,) and Euro Music Festival and Academy in Halle, Germany.
