Leading Change, Changing History
History is messy, ranging across diverse perspectives and experiences. One of the central features of conservatory training doesn’t always make room for this diversity: the canon. Ayana Smith, associate professor and chair of the Jacobs Musicology Department, is out to change this.
In March 2024, EarShot’s first Reading at the Jacobs School took place. EarShot featured the work of four composers (including one Jacobs student and one alum) with Meyer conducting the Jacobs Chamber Orchestra.
