FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of violinist Itamar Zorman as associate professor of music in violin, effective Aug. 1.
Zorman has performed as a soloist with such orchestras as the Israel Philharmonic, Mariinsky Orchestra and New World Symphony with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Michael Tilson-Thomas and Karina Canellakis in some of the world’s most prestigious venues.
The winner of the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition, 2013 Avery Fisher Career Grant and 2014 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, Zorman has collaborated with artists including Mitsuko Uchida, Richard Goode and Steven Isserlis, among others.
“Known for his intensely soulful performances, Itamar Zorman is one of the most evocative violinists of his generation, and we are thrilled that he will be carrying on the tradition of our storied Strings Department,” said Abra Bush, David Henry Jacobs Bicentennial Dean.
As a teacher, Zorman has held visiting positions at the Eastman School of Music, Indiana University and McDuffy Center for Strings. He is a regular faculty member at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Heifetz Institute and Keshet Eilon and has taught master classes at the Royal Academy of Music, San Francisco Conservatory and Duke University.
He plays on a 1734 Guarneri del Gesù from the collection of Yehuda Zisapel.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Itamar Zorman to our strings faculty,” said Simin Ganatra, Strings Department chair. “He is a wonderful musician and teacher, and we look forward to all he will bring to our students and community.”
