BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is pleased to present faculty member, alumnus and superstar violinist Joshua Bell in recital with British pianist Sam Haywood at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, at the Musical Arts Center.
The program will include Beethoven’s Sonata No. 4 in A Minor for violin and piano, Op. 23; Grieg’s Sonata No. 1 in F Major for violin and piano, Op. 8; Brahms’ Sonata No. 1 in G Major for violin and piano, Op. 78 and Bartók’s Rhapsody No. 1 for violin and piano, Sz. 86.
Bell, one of the most celebrated violinists of his era, has served on the Jacobs School of Music faculty since 2008. His restless curiosity, passion and multi-faceted musical interests have earned him the rare title of “classical music superstar.” Recently named the music director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, he is the first person to hold this post since Sir Neville Marriner formed the orchestra in 1958. Haywood has performed to critical acclaim in many of the world’s major concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Konzerthaus in Vienna and the Wigmore Hall in London. As a chamber musician he is a regular duo partner of Bell as well as Steven Isserlis and performs with many leading chamber ensembles. Lean more about Haywood.
