FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Feb. 27, 2015

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In a unique artist exchange, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Latin Jazz Ensemble will be hosted by the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend in a 7 p.m. performance on Tuesday, March 3. The concert will take place in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall (1925 Northside Boulevard). The Raclin School’s Euclid Quartet will perform at 8 p.m on Thursday, March 5, in IU Bloomington’s Auer Hall.

The artist exchange is the result of a generous gift by the Georgina Joshi Foundation that is also credited with the newly renovated Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall at IU South Bend. In keeping with the donor’s vision, this exchange provides performance opportunities and encourages the support of public performances of music.

“It allows us to share performers from one campus to the other, presenting new opportunities to both the performers and audience members,” said Marvin Curtis, dean of the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts. “The collaboration will be a great way to work together and offer student and faculty performers an extended performance opportunity.”

The Indiana University Latin Jazz Ensemble prides itself on getting folks out of their seats and onto the dance floor with their big sound and driving rhythms. Percussionist Michael Spiro and trombonist Wayne Wallace, who have each earned numerous Grammy nominations, lead a 24-piece band of Jacobs School of Music students on brass, woodwinds, guitar, bass, piano, percussion and vocals. Their signature sound is a modern hybrid of Latin Jazz, Afro-Cuban folkloric and African-American musical styles.

Tickets for all students and children are free of charge. Tickets for all others are $5-$7 in advance and $7-$9 at the door. For more information, visit arts.iusb.edu, or call the box office at 574-520-4203.
