BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music welcomes three more renowned guests this year as part of its Lecture Series and "Five Friends Master Class Series."
As part of the lecture series, Jacobs alumna Janet Horvath, associate principal cello of the Minnesota Orchestra for three decades, will present "Playing (Less) Hurt—Injury Prevention Seminar" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, in Room 036 of the Musical Arts Center. Jacobs Professor of Violin Jorja Fleezanis will join Horvath in a Q&A on building a career as a performer, "Musical LifeSmarts—Town Hall Forum Style," at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28, in Sweeney Hall.
As part of the school’s "Five Friends Master Class Series," lyric tenor Matthew Polenzani, who frequently performs at the Met and international opera houses, will perform at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, in Auer Hall. He will be accompanied by Jacobs faculty member Kevin Murphy, piano. Polenzani will then present a master class at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 31, in Auer Hall.
The highlighted "Five Friends" event for four-time Grammy winner and Jacobs alumnus Vance George, director emeritus of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, will be a master class with the University Singers and Jacobs graduate conductors at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, in Ford Hall.
In addition to the featured event, George will give a seminar presentation on Choral Masterworks at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 7, in Musical Arts Center Room 036; a seminar presentation on Requiems at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, in Musical Arts Center Room 036; and master classes with the University Singers and graduate conductors at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 8, in Music Addition Room 405.

The "Five Friends Master Class Series," honoring the lives of five talented Jacobs School students—Chris Carducci, Garth Eppley, Georgina Joshi, Zachary Novak and Robert Samels—was established last year with a gift of $1 million from the Georgina Joshi Foundation Inc.
Polenzani's events are in honor of Eppley, and George’s events are in honor of Novak.
