Susan Sukman McCray Scholarship
Susan Sukman McCray grew up on the West Side of Los Angeles, and attended UCLA majoring in Art History and Psychology. A talented singer, McCray was discovered by Fred Foster, then President of Monument Records, and signed her to a contract where she recorded for the company. Her popularity was growing, but due to the grueling schedule, she returned to California. Her father, composer Harry Sukman, knew of an opportunity as secretary/receptionist for the shows he was working on, NBC's Bonanza and The High Chaparral at Paramount. She was hired for the position, and went on to work in casting and production. Throughout her career, McCray worked for the shows, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Mannix, The Odd Couple, and Little House on the Prairie.
Today, along with her husband, Kent McCray, she is developing new motion picture and television projects under their production company, Ten-K Productions.
Each year the Jacobs School of Music is proud to award the Susan Sukman McCray Scholarship to students of the School pursuing a degree in voice who have a special interest in musical theater.
