Alan P. Bell Memorial Scholarship
Alan Bell was a professor emeritus of counseling and educational psychology at Indiana University and the father of violin virtuoso, Joshua Bell. Professor Bell directed the Center for Human Growth at Indiana University from 1969-1977 and authored several books including Human Sexuality: Studies From the Kinsey Institute and The Mind and Heart in Human Sexual Behavior.
Alan P. Bell was born in 1932 in Newark. He obtained a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of the South and a master's from the General Theological Seminary. In 1964, he earned a doctorate in counseling from Columbia University after working as an Episcopal minister in Denville, New Jersey.
In 1967, Dr. Bell worked as a research psychologist at the Alfred C. Kinsey Institute for Sex Research and became a full professor at Indiana University in the early 1980's. He has also founded the Center for Human Growth at IU and became professor emeritus in 1997.
Alan Bell passed away in 2002 due to a stroke in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Alan P. Bell Memorial Scholarship supports undergraduate and graduate students studying Violin at the Jacobs School.
