Five Friends Master Class Series
In 2013, the Five Friends Master Class Series began to invite established performers and teachers to the IU Jacobs School of Music to hold master classes, lectures, and residencies. The Series honors five talented students who attended the Jacobs School whose lives were taken in a plane crash in 2006. The invited musicians have been experts in the fields of music theory, composition, choral music, voice, and early music.
The Five Friends Master Class Series is funded by The Georgina Joshi Foundation in memory of the five students: Chris Carducci, Garth Eppley, Georgina Joshi, Zachary Novak, and Robert Samels. They are honored through annual master classes given by a world-renowned and acknowledged experts. The Five Friends Master Class Series are open to the public and benefit the students, activities, and departments which were so important to Chris Carducci, Garth Eppley, Georgina Joshi, Zachary Novak, and Robert Samels in their professional development as musicians; specifically the Voice Department, Choral Conducting Department, Early Music Department, Music Theory Department, Composition Department, and the IU Opera Theater. These individuals include Joseph Schwantner, Joan Tower, Elizabeth Larsen, Debra Voigt, Peter Schubert, Steven Mackey, John Luther Adams, David Rakowski, London Haydn Quartet, Eric Owens, Elizabeth Wright,and Jacques Ogg.
The Five Friends Master Class Series encourages everyone to learn about each of the five friends, their musical talents and passions, and to develop similar interests and passions in current and future music students.
