The Music Scoring for Visual Media program offers an array of opportunities to collaborate with filmmakers and video game designers.
We fully examine the best musical responses to dramatic storytelling, as well as the technical acumen needed to execute high-end competitive Midi demos that help you obtain work.
Special faculty cover additional disciplines in the field, such as synthestration, orchestration for the screen, and music licensing.
We offer gaming opportunities through the game design program at the IU Media School.
Whether your interest is in a minor, a certificate, or a master’s degree, your work will prepare you for exactly what lies ahead in a career pursuit of scoring to picture.
Our award-winning faculty have significant expertise in areas of scoring for visual media ranging from orchestration to synthestration to music licensing and more.
Their experience currently working in the heart of the industry allows them to create a forward-looking curriculum that stays abreast of today’s trends.
With a low student-faculty ratio, they will become your collaborators and mentors as well as your teachers.

The winner of the annual Jon Vickers Film Scoring Award competition receives a commission to score a full-length silent film that culminates with a live-to-picture performance at the IU Cinema.
Project Involve is a special summer collaboration where six scoring composers spend three weeks in Los Angeles writing original scores for six emerging LA filmmakers. It includes a major premiere at the ArcLight Hollywood multiplex, while HBO retains the rights to air the final films.
