Georgina Harsha Joshi, a prodigious soprano, is celebrated for her remarkable talent, passion, and dedication to the arts. Born on October 21, 1981, in Elkhart, Indiana, Georgina’s life has been filled with music from an early age, showcasing her extraordinary gifts as a singer, violinist, and performer.
Georgina’s musical journey began at just three years old when she started studying the violin, and by the age of eight, she had already begun formal voice training. She made her operatic debut in Indiana Opera North’s production of Amahl and the Night Visitors, playing the title role of Amahl, and has continued to captivate audiences with her performances on various stages ever since.
After graduating from John Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana, where she excelled academically and musically, Georgina attended the Royal College of Music in London, earning a BMusic (Hons) degree in 2001. She then pursued her Master of Music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying with Alan Bennet. During her time at IU, Georgina performed as a soloist in notable works such as Haydn’s Creation, Handel’s Solomon, Bach’s B-Minor Mass, and Brahms’ Deutsches Requiem. She has also appeared in IU Opera Theatre productions, portraying Clorinda in La Cenerentola and Despina in Così fan tutte.
Georgina’s musical accomplishments extend internationally, with solo performances in England, Wales, Romania, and Greece, and collaborations with ensembles such as Catacoustic Consort and The Bath Street Studio. Her involvement with the Carmel Bach Festival Chorale demonstrates her passion for ensemble work and her exceptional vocal abilities.
In addition to her musical career, Georgina is a skilled and passionate pilot, earning her private pilot’s license in 2000 along with twin-engine and IFR ratings. She enjoys skiing, sailing, reading, and spending quality time with her family, always seeking new adventures and opportunities for growth.
On April 25, 2024, Georgina Joshi was honored with the "Luminary" Alumni Award by Dean Abra Bush at a masterclass in Bloomington, Indiana. This prestigious recognition highlights Georgina’s ongoing contributions to the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she is regarded as one of its most accomplished and versatile alumnae.
