BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music continues to feature a wide variety of programming during its annual Summer Music Festival. The series of more than 40 free events runs from June 5 through July 28 and includes an array of world-class concerts featuring choral, jazz, chamber music, piano, organ and other special offerings.
In addition to performances by faculty and guests, many concerts will feature students from the Jacobs Academy, which offers a broad selection of year-round music programs, summer academies and adult summer workshops; programming from the strings, piano, saxophone and organ academies will be presented during the festival.
“The Jacobs Academy is very excited to contribute a number of concerts to the Summer Music Festival through the various programs we host for international participants,” said Brenda Brenner, associate professor of music education and director of the academy. “In these programs, Jacobs faculty collaborate with esteemed guest artists and teachers to provide inspiration for our students and the community at large. Many students and guest faculty return year after year, as they recognize how unique and special the opportunity is to be part of the Jacobs Academy and the Summer Music Festival. The impact, for both our local community and for our international visitors, is immense.”
A new feature of this year’s festival is the Professional String Quartet Studies program with the Pacifica Quartet and viola professor Atar Arad, a three-week invitational designed for burgeoning young string quartets to receive professional mentoring from Pacifica and Arad in performance, career development, community engagement and teaching. The invited ensembles will receive full tuition as well as room and board for the duration of the program.
This year’s chosen quartets are the Erinys Quartet, from Finland, and the Katarina String Quartet, from Montreal.
