FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is pleased to announce that Tiffany Galus, assistant professor of music in bands, has been named codirector of the IU Marching Hundred. She will serve alongside fellow codirector Eric Smedley, associate professor of music in bands.
Currently in her second year on the Jacobs School faculty, Galus has been instrumental in modernizing the way the Marching Hundred learns its drill formations and movement as well as in digitizing the band’s sheet music. As the group’s social media manager, she continues to connect with a wider audience through increasingly engaging content. She has also been a primary mentor of student leadership within the band.
“Tiffany Galus has done outstanding work from day one,” said Smedley. “Her impact on the students and the Marching Hundred program as a whole has been tremendous. Her promotion to codirector is a direct reflection of the hard work she has put into serving our students, school and community. I am proud to share the directing responsibilities with such a talented and passionate educator.”
Galus has created and produced numerous halftime shows for the Marching Hundred, with several featuring important collaborations. During her first season, she partnered with the IU Dance Marathon to showcase student leaders from the organization dancing with the band at halftime.
This past season, she created a show titled “Let’s Go!” to celebrate women in sports and the 50th anniversary of Title IX, featuring a special appearance from the IU women’s basketball team and coach Teri Moren. Galus also created the 2022 homecoming show celebrating the 50th anniversary of the IU RedStepper Dance Team, featuring a goal-to-goal kickline comprising more than 150 RedStepper alumnae.
In addition to her duties with the Marching Hundred, Galus works with the Big Red Basketball Band and the Crabb Band (IU Soccer). She also teaches courses in conducting, score study and wind band literature, and conducts with each of the top three wind bands at Jacobs.
Galus earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting degree from The University of Texas at Austin and Master of Music in Wind Conducting and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from the Jacobs School of Music, where she studied conducting with Stephen W. Pratt, Jeffrey D. Gershman, Eric M. Smedley and Paul W. Popiel, in addition to studying trombone with Peter Ellefson, Carl Lenthe and M. Dee Stewart.
