Jacobs faculty members Wayne Wallace and Michael Spiro are no strangers to the coveted nominations either, racking up their seventh and ninth, respectively, this month.

The Wayne Wallace Latin Jazz Quintet earned its third nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album, with its “Intercambio” recording, on Wallace’s own Patois label. Headed by jazz professor Wallace, trombonist, composer, arranger and producer, the quintet includes longtime colleague Michael Spiro, Jacobs associate professor of percussion.

Several alumni contributed to Grammy-nominated albums, including early music tenor Aaron Sheehan, who won last year in the Best Opera Recording category. This year, he sang on two releases nominated for Best Opera Recording: “Monteverdi: Il Ritorno D’Ulisse in Patria” with Boston Baroque and “Steffani: Niobe, Regina Di Tebe” with the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra.

Tenor Daniel Shirley, who recently earned his doctorate, joined Sheehan on “Monteverdi: Il Ritorno D’Ulisse in Patria,” which is up for Best Engineered Classical Album in addition to Best Opera Recording.

Recording Arts alumna Laura Sisk contributed engineering skills on one of the hottest albums of the year, Taylor Swift’s “1989,” which earned numerous nominations.

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards will be presented live Feb. 15 on CBS by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
