BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University Latin America Music Center at the Jacobs School of Music is pleased to announce the publication of materials related to its activities and fields of research through IU's self-publication service, IUScholarWorks.

The center's publications through the service include the proceedings of "Cultural Counterpoints: Examining the Musical Interactions between the U.S. and Latin America," a 2011 conference in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the center.

Also included in the online repository are issues of LAMúsiCa, a newsletter published by the Latin America Music Center in the 1990s.

"The publication of these materials contributes to furthering the goals of the LAMC as an entity that fosters research and exchanges regarding all aspects of Latin American music among scholars of all disciplines," commented Erick Carballo, interim director of the center.

IUScholarWorks, a service of the IU Libraries with additional technology support from University Information Technology Services, aims to make the work of IU scholars freely available, ensuring that these resources are preserved and organized for the future. The repository's missions are to expand the dissemination of and to ensure to the extent possible the long-term preservation of IU scholarship. All materials in the repository are freely available worldwide.

With a large amount of resources as well multiple performance and pedagogical activities, the publication of these materials contributes to the Latin America Music Center’s ongoing mission to encourage research about Latin American music.

Some of the center's resources and activities include large collections of music recordings, scores and journals; legacy collections donated by families and individuals; a thriving performance program that includes the Latin American Popular Music Ensemble, the Latin American Guitar Ensemble, a chamber music concert series and multiple guests throughout the year; and an education program with courses on Latin American music serving graduate and undergraduate students at IU.
