Madge Wilson Music Scholarship Fund
Madge (Jones) Wilson was born March 26, 1897 in Vinton County, Ohio. Her parents were James H. and Carrie (Zimmerman) Jones. After graduating from high school in 1915, Mrs. Wilson taught at elementary schools in Albany, Athens, and Franklin County, Ohio until 1929. During this time she attended Ohio University at Athens, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1930. In 1931, Mrs. Wilson moved to Bloomington, Indiana with her husband John T. Wilson and their daughter Ardis. For more than 30 years, Mrs. Wilson taught at Elm Heights Elementary School in Bloomington.
Over the years, Mrs. Wilson derived such pleasure from attending the annual Madrigal Dinners at IU, she decided to establish this fund to give something back to the student singers. Upon her death in 1976, the Madge Wilson Music Scholarship Fund was created through a bequest to provide financial assistance to voice students at IU Jacobs School of Music.
