Anna Weber Endowment Fund
Created in 1968 by Anna Weber of Chicago, Illinois, this fund honors the memory of her late husband, Marek Weber. Mr. Weber was Austrian-born and studied in Berlin and Vienna. Already showing his talent as a conductor at 17, Mr. Weber led a Berlin hotel orchestra and developed the skills he later used in conducting large orchestras specializing in Viennese waltzes. In the United States, Mr. Weber was successful in radio and records. He was a conductor of the Contented Hour radio show in 1938-39 and continued to be very active in radio and recording throughout the 1940s. During his lifetime, Mr. Weber gave his violins to Indiana University Jacobs School of Music to be used by needy students. In her will, Mrs. Weber established this endowment as a tribute to her husband's love of music and as a means of continuing his philanthropic spirit.
The Anna Weber Endowment provides two violin scholarships to be given annually to a male and female student at IU Jacobs School of Music who demonstrate financial need.
