Ruth Parr Septer Scholarship Fund
The daughter of Oliver A. and Edna (Minnich) Parr, Ruth Parr Septer was born December 3, 1906 in Tuscarawas, Ohio. After graduating in 1924 from Dennison High School, she received a degree from National Park Music Seminary in Forest Glen, Maryland. She continued her studies at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music. On June 8, 1926 she married Leslie A. Septer and after several years they made their home in Bloomington, Indiana. As a private music instructor, Mrs. Septer shared her love of music with many students throughout her lifetime. She died in 1980 and, according to the provisions of her will, the Ruth Parr Septer Scholarship Fund was established from the sale of her home at 1606 North Fee Lane. Purchased by the University because of its proximity to campus, the building is now home to the IU Student Foundation.
The Ruth Parr Septer Scholarship is awarded annually to deserving students at IU Jacobs School of Music.
