Nina Neal Scholarship Fund
Nina Neal, the daughter of John and Ola (Callahan) Stultz, was born in Owensberg, Indiana. She and her husband, Watson Neal, were the former owners of several paint stores in the Jasonville, Indiana area. Mrs. Neal spent a lifetime instilling in others her love of music. She taught art and music at the Jasonville and Midland Schools and was involved in several local singing groups. She was director of music for Triad (a local choral group) from the time it was organized in 1931 until her death. As a member of the Jasonville Baptist Church, she was music director and organist for many years. Mrs. Neal became a charter member of the Delta Xi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa. In September 1973, she was honored at the Jasonville High School Homecoming banquet with a special program for her many years of community service. In 1975, she established a music scholarship at Shakamak High School that is awarded annually to a graduating senior who plans to attend college and major in music. In 1976, she was nominated to be First Lady of the Jasonville Bicentennial Celebration, but declined the honor in order to write and direct the pageant for the Bicentennial which involved a cast of more than 250 people in the Jasonville community.
Mrs. Neal passed away February 27, 1983, leaving as a bequest the Nina Neal Scholarship Fund at Indiana University. It was her desire to provide financial assistance to students at IU Jacobs School of Music, with preference given to students graduating from high school in Greene County, Indiana.
