Eugene J. and Eleanor J. Knapik Fund
As a sculptor and a violin maker, respectively, Eleanor and Eugene Knapik devoted their lives to the arts. They made their home in Chesterton, Indiana, where Eugene built stringed instruments in his own shop in the basement. At Mrs. Knapik's memorial service, Charles Webb, Dean of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, described her as "a lover of beauty who created beauty in everything she did." The Knapiks each left their estates to Indiana University, their desire being to enrich the music and art departments of the University far into the future. Mr. Knapik left, among other things, all his violin-making tools and a quartet of matched string instruments. The Le Bovit Knapik String Instrument Laboratory at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is dedicated in his honor.
The Eugene J. and Eleanor J. Knapik Fund provides scholarships for graduate or undergraduate students majoring in violin, viola, or cello.
