Dick and Louise Johnson Foundation Music Scholarship
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in government from Indiana University in 1935, C. Richard "Dick" Johnson began a more than 60-year journalism career, including serving as owner/operator of Warrick Newspapers.
During his time at IU, Dick was a member of the Indiana Marching 100 and was the firstchair cornetist with the IU Concert Band. He played trumpet and flugelhorn with several campus orchestras.
Dick married Verna "Louise" Miles in 1940. Louise was a former violinist with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. Dick and Louise were very active in their community, and Louise was a founding member of the C. Richard Johnson and Verna Louise Johnson Foundation prior to her death in 2015. Dick preceded her in death in 1997.
The Dick and Louise Johnson Foundation Music Scholarship provides scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate students in the Jacobs School of Music. Preference will be given to students from Warrick County or surrounding counties in Indiana, which are Vanderburgh, Gibson, Pike, Dubois, and Spencer.
