Richard S. and Jeanne Hardy Forkner Friends of Music Scholarship
The Richard S. and Jeanne Hardy Forkner Friends of Music Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Richard and Jeanne with scholarships for students studying at the Jacobs School of Music.
Richard S. Forkner was born in 1919 in Anderson, IN. He was valedictorian of the Anderson High School Class of 1937, and graduated from General Motors Institute (now known as Kettering University) with a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1941. He worked as a mechanical engineer at Delco Remy Division of GM in Anderson. The couple, Dick and Jeanne, moved to Bloomington, in 1980, where Jeanne had earned her Masters degree at the Jacobs School. They attended thousands of musical performances, including operas they'd never seen, organ, orchestra, choral, and chamber concerts, at the Jacobs School throughout the 33 years they lived in Bloomington.
Dick and Jeanne were members of the Society of the Friends of Music. Dick sang in the community with the First United Methodist Church choir.
The Richard S. and Jeanne Hardy Forkner Friends of Music Scholarship is used to support undergraduate students at the Jacobs School of Music.
