Alan Chepregi Memorial Scholarship
(est. 1998) On January 1, 1998, the Marching Hundred lost a good friend in Alan Chepregi. As a four year member and a devoted alumnus, Alan's dedication to the Hundred had never waned through the years. Alan's great appreciation for music and love for Indiana University and the Hundred led his friends to start a memorial scholarship in his name.
Born in Hammond, Indiana on April 19, 1951, he graduated with a Chemistry degree from IU in 1972 and worked as a Refinery Maintenance Service Supervisor.
From his home in Texas, Alan returned every year to join in the IU Alumni Band Homecoming activities. For his perfect attendance since 1972, Alan was honored with the "Newell Long Award." Playing with the Alumni Band meant so much to Alan that although gravely ill, having been just diagnosed with "Amyloidosis," he made one more journey to IU for his final Homecoming. Three months later, Alan died at the age of 46. Alan will always be remembered for his love of music, life and friends.
The Alan Chepregi Memorial Scholarship is the first one directed to help a student member in the Marching Hundred. It is awarded each year at Homecoming in the fall semester.
