Martha & Fred Arto Music Scholarship
(est. 1999) Fred Arto established this scholarship in memory of his wife Martha and to honor her deep love of music, especially choral music. Martha Arto was a native of Mississippi and held a degree in music education from the University of Mississippi. Daisy Garton was once Mrs. Arto's music teacher and instrumental in instilling her love of music, and was influential in the decision to endow a scholarship at Indiana University for undergraduate students that otherwise would not be able to attend the IU Jacobs School of Music. Martha Arto was a soprano and she sang in and directed numerous church choirs.
The Martha and Fred Arto Music Scholarship is awarded annually to worthy undergraduate students at the IU Jacobs School of Music.
