Ballet Shoe Fund
Pointe shoes are essential for a female ballet dancer; however, single pairs of pointe shoes can cost over $100. Despite efforts to prolong the life of the shoes, they must be retired after approximately one week. A few days of classes and rehearsals can soften the shoes, which becomes dangerous to dancers as they cannot provide the necessary support. As it nears performance week, dancers must be prepared with additional shoes as the hard stage floor destroys them even more quickly.
To lessen the financial burden for ballet students at the Jacobs School, the Ballet Shoe Fund was established, and it is used in support of furnishing ballet shoes for students enrolled in the Jacobs School of Music Ballet Program.
