Jamey Aebersold Jazz Combo Fund
Jamey Aebersold, born in 1939 in New Albany, Indiana, is a nationally-known saxophonist and authority on jazz education and improvisation. He is a graduate of Indiana University with a Masters Degree in Saxophone awarded in 1962. In 1992, He also received an Honorary Doctorate of Music by Indiana University. Jamey has developed a series of Aebersold Play-A-Longs—book and recording sets—as well as various other supplemental aids for the development of improvisational skills.
He has taught at three colleges and universities in the Louisville, Kentucky area, and has made guest appearances around the world. Jamey has been a driving force in America's native art form, Jazz, and continues to kindle the fires of musical imagination in those with whom he comes in contact.
Since 2006, the Jacobs School of Music is proud to award the annual Jamey and Sara Aebersold Jazz Combo Fund to support the creation of a Jazz Combo CD as well as to cover funds for selected jazz combos to travel to jazz festivals, meetings, and conferences. His belief that jazz education at the Jacobs School of Music takes place both in and out of the classroom provides the impulse for this Fund.
