The Ildebrando Pizzetti Memorial Scholarship
Ildebrando Pizzetti was born in Parma, Italy, in 1880 and died in Rome in 1968. He studied piano with his father, Odvardo Pizzetti, and composition with Tebaldini at the Conservatory of Parma. After graduating in 1901, Mr. Pizzetti taught at the Conservatory of Parma, the Conservatory of Milan, and the Accademia di Santo Cecilia in Rome. Through his many works for the theater he created the modern counterpart of medieval mystery plays. In all, Mr. Pizzetti wrote 13 operas, and was considered the leading figure in Italy's modern Romantic movement. In a review of his opera, Murder in the Cathedral, a critic for the London Times wrote, "Pizzetti has great integrity, much sensitivity, and a technical mastery, especially in choral writing, hardly to be matched elsewhere." In 1987, Maria T. Braibanti established this fellowship as a tribute to her father's memory.
The Ildebrando Pizzetti Memorial Fellowship is awarded annually to students enrolled in IU Jacobs School of Music.
