IU Jacobs School of Music Centennial Award
As part of the IU Jacobs School of Music’s 100-year celebration, a dedicated committee comprising faculty and staff members, came together to establish this prestigious honor. Recipients of the Centennial Award stand as a testament to a century of musical excellence and a celebration of those who have played a pivotal role in shaping and defining our profession. Recipients can be nominated by Jacobs School deans, directors, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors.
This award serves as a heartfelt acknowledgment of individuals who have made significant and meaningful contributions to the advancement of music in various facets. Whether through their dedication to study, advocacy, performance, accessibility, and/or philanthropy, recipients of the Centennial Award have left an indelible mark on the landscape of music and its impact on society and citizenry.
Nominees for this esteemed accolade span a diverse spectrum, encompassing alumni who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields, donors whose generosity has enabled the realization of ambitious musical endeavors, patrons whose unwavering support has nurtured talent and innovation, and friends who have lent their voices and resources to champion musical endeavors, as well as esteemed faculty and staff members—both current and retired—who have dedicated their lives to the enrichment of musical education and culture.
The award is a scaled replica of the Ortman Banners, which hang in the lobby of the Musical Arts Center. The wooden base is made of poplar, the Indiana State tree, and was crafted by local wood artisan and IU faculty emeritus Jerry Forshee.
