Sandy Williams is adjunct lecturer in music in jazz studies: guitar at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Williams has been a fixture on the Indiana music scene for several decades. His past teachers include David Baker, composer George Russell, Joe Pass, Clare Fischer, Steve Allee, Jimmy Wyble, and Adam Rogers. His live performance credits span from performing with alt-country rocker Steve Earle for a live audience of 50,000 (in addition to a nationwide broadcast) to crooner Michael Feinstein’s live PBS special, the Steve Allee Big Band, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
As a studio musician, Williams’ credits include The Rounder Records Story with Carrie Newcomer, jazz arranger John Clayton, John Mellencamp’s movie soundtrack Falling from Grace (with Larry Crane), the Steve Allee Big Band, and hundreds of commercial jingles. He is the author of Live Sound for Guitar (Cengage Learning) and technical editor/proofreader for numerous other guitar-related books, including four books of solo guitar arrangements by Steely Dan guitarist Jon Herington.
Williams has taught at the college level for over two decades. He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
