Master of Music (M.M.)
The following information is for entry into the 2022-23 school year.
Prescreening Requirements
All computer music composition applicants must submit a prescreening portfolio via the JSOM Supplemental application by December 1.
Portfolio should include:
- Three to four electronic works. Submit audio recordings or performance videos, as well as program notes. Please also submit PDF scores, patches, and other documentation, as appropriate for each work.
- Electronic compositions can include fixed-media audio, video with audio soundtrack, and fixed or interactive media with a live performance component.
- For multichannel works, please submit a stereo mixdown.
- A chronological list of completed compositions (in PDF format), including date of composition, medium, duration, and any performances.
Interview Requirements
Select applicants will be invited to a live interview after a review of all prescreening portfolios.
If you are invited, you will be scheduled for one of the following audition dates and will receive your schedule by email 3-4 weeks prior to your interview:
- January 14-15, 2022
- February 4-5, 2022
- March 4-5, 2022
Interviews will be approximately 30 minutes in length and include a brief ear-training examination (identification of intervals, triads, etc.).
International applicants are welcome to travel to Bloomington, but we can also offer the possibility of conducting the interview virtually. Please email musicadm@iu.edu to request an international virtual interview.
