Luis Antonio Ramírez

Pianist, composer and music professor born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on Ferbuary 10, 1923, died in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 15, 1995. He initiated his studies in music in 1954 under Alfredo Romero. He graduated from the Conservatorio de Música of Puerto Rico in 1954. He continued his music studies at the Conservatorio de Música of Madrid, where he graduated in 1964. From 1950 to 1957 he served as music director of WIPR, the government’s educational radio station. He received the Premio Cultural of the Ateneo Puertorriqueño in 1966 and 1968. In 1968 he joined the faculty as professor of harmony and composition at the Conservatorio de Música of Puerto Rico. Throughout his career he was the recipient of many awards and commissions from Puerto Rican cultural organizations including the Instituto de Cultural de Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra.
