Whether you hope to spend your life performing as a soloist, playing as part of an orchestra, or joining academia, you’ll find the right woodwind program for you here. We offer undergraduate, graduate, and diploma programs in six areas of study:
All of our woodwind programs are taught by world-renowned faculty in an environment where you’re encouraged to stretch yourself and reach for your personal best—every day.
Our faculty of world-class performers will challenge you to constantly expand your horizons musically, professionally, and pedagogically. With backgrounds in orchestral performance, chamber music, solo recording, and pedagogy, you’ll be exposed to a vast array of knowledge and musical excellence every day.
You’ll benefit from individual faculty mentoring throughout your degree work. In addition to weekly private lessons, you can take advantage of regular master classes, as well as courses in orchestral repertoire, pedagogy, reed making, and audition preparation.

As a woodwind student at the Jacobs School of Music, you’ll have a part to play in some of the 1,100 performances we present each year. You’ll have opportunities to perform in solo, chamber music, and large ensemble settings.
Some of your choices include six orchestras, two symphonic bands, a baroque and classical orchestra, a new music ensemble, and a full chamber music program. You can also explore jazz and historical performance.
You’ll have additional chances to perform through the opera and ballet programs, student conductor orchestra, and touring, as well as many local professional orchestras. You’re also encouraged to collaborate with your peers across the school to create your own opportunities.
Our Young Winds program gives students in grades six though nine the chance to study with our faculty in small group settings. We offer both beginner and advanced ensembles, and every student has the chance to perform at the end of the semester.
It is such a privilege to spend every day next to such inspiring and focused peers and faculty. Jacobs is an incredibly unique place with such a high level of playing in the midst of a huge campus with so many diverse opportunities.
