Whether you want to master outstanding performance skills, cultivate your ability to interpret music, or learn methods for teaching piano, we can help you achieve your goals.
Our piano programs are designed to help our undergraduate and graduate students to grow and learn in a healthy, supportive atmosphere. Each student receives personal attention with at least a one-hour individual lesson weekly and participation in a weekly studio class. We also offer chamber music coaching, and there are three concerto competitions a year.
Our graduates enjoy a variety of careers in music, including international performance and teaching positions.
The hallmark of our piano program has always been our distinguished faculty, who come from all over the world and offer many different philosophies and schools of piano playing. As a student here, you’ll study with incredibly talented pianists who have performed around the globe.

Each year, more than 1,100 performances take place at Jacobs—and as a student here, you’ll be a part of them. You will have ample opportunities to perform in front of live audiences. You could also work as a pianist for hire for people in our community.
The Jacobs School's Secondary Piano Program provides elective piano instruction for all students at IUB and required piano classes for music majors. Secondary Piano Program faculty also oversee keyboard proficiency examinations for music majors.
