Inaugural Festivities for Indiana University’s Newest Instrument

Charles Fisk, Opus 91

 Presenters:

  • JSoM Organ Faculty, opening recital, Sunday and Monday evenings.
  • Members of C.B. Fisk, an exploration of Opus 91.
  • Jesse Eschbach, University of North Texas, IU alumnus and recipient of the 2008 Ragatz Distinguished Alumni Award, lectures and master classes on the French organ and its repertoire from the 17th to the early 19th centuries.
  • James David Christie, Oberlin Conservatory, recital of C.B. Fisk, Opus 91 and master class on organ performance of French Romantic repertoire.
  • William Porter, Eastman School of Music, recital of improvisations in styles spanning the full range of French organ repertoire; master class on improvisation in historical styles.
  • JSoM Organ Student performances:  Sacred Music Practicum presentation including of music in  “alternatim” practice.

8 pm Inaugural Recital of the Webb-Ehrlich Great Organ of Alumni Hall, C.B.  Fisk, Opus 91, “An Organ at the Crossroads,” a collaborative recital by Colin Andrews, Janette Fishell, David Kazimir, Marilyn Keiser, Bruce Neswick, Charles Webb and Christopher Young. Reception following in the Solarium
Monday, September 16

9:00-10:15 am Opening Remarks and Exploration of Fisk, Opus 91,Steven Dieck and members of C.B. Fisk.
10:30 am-noon Jesse Eschbach: Lecture/Master class: Pre-Classical French Organ Music
Noon-1:00 pm Lunch on your own
1:00-2:15 pm The Webb-Ehrlich Organ in Liturgical Context: Alternatim and Ensemble Music performed by the Sacred Music Practicum class under the direction of Bruce Neswick
2:30-4:00 pm James David Christie: Master class on French Romantic Organ Music
4:30-5:30 pm William Porter: A Quick Trip through Time: Recital of Improvised Music in the French Manner
5:30-7:30 pm Cash bar and dinner in the IMU Solarium 
8:00 pm Inaugural Recital repeated for conference attendees and members of the general public
Tuesday, September 17
9:00-10:30 am Jesse Eschbach: Lecture/Master class on Classical French Organ Music
11:00 am–12:15 pm William Porter: Master class on improvisation in historical styles
12:15-1:30 pm Lunch on your own
1:30-3:30 pm Jesse Eschbach: Lecture/Master class on Post-Classical French Music, C.B. Fisk, Opus 135, Auer Hall 
3:30-5:00 pm Jacobs School of Music Organ Department Alumni Reception at Linden House, home of Janette Fishell and Colin Andrews. Those not attending are at leisure to enjoy the IU campus and Bloomington.
5:30-7:30 pm Cash Bar and Banquet in the Tudor Room (IMU)

Wednesday, September 18
9 am–12:15 pm Organ master classes with JSoM Organ Faculty Janette Fishell and Christopher Young in Alumni Hall and Auer Hall; performance in these classes is open to all attendees.

12:30 pm IOU Board Meeting; DeVault Center. Catered lunch.
