Mariachi Group Call-Out
We are looking for students interested in joining a new mariachi ensemble! This will be a performing group, but also a setting where you can learn more about mariachi music and Mexican and Mexican-American culture. Multiple skill levels and experience are more than welcome, although we would prefer that you have some prior music performance experience (any kind of music will do). We are looking for potential guitar, vihuela, guitarron, and violin players who are not shy about singing. Knowledge of vihuela and guitarrón is not expected. If you play other string instruments we can teach you. Once we have a core group, we will also consider solo vocalists and possibly other instrumentalists. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Jonathan De La Cruz (delacruj@indiana.ed) or Prof. Javier León ( at the Latin American Music Center. Please spread the word amongst your friends! This is a joint initiative between La Casa, the Latin American Music Center (Jacobs School of Music) and the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology.
