Latin American Ensemble (LAE)

The LAMC proudly hosts the Latin American Ensemble (LAE).

Dedicated to the performance of Latin American repertoire, the ensemble explores original Latin American genres and their corresponding performance practices through arranging and performing pieces from both the popular and classical repertoire.

In order to perform an extended and large variety of repertoire from Latin American, the LAE often receives as guest faculty from Indiana University in addition to having its own arrangers and composers in residency. In the past, LAE has received top names in Latin American music as guests perform with and coach the ensemble including include musicians such as Aquiles Báez, Jorge Gomez, Pablo Aslan, Jovino Santos Neto, and Pablo Ziegler among many others.

The LAE has its own performing library with original music and arrangements especially crafted for the ensemble. If you would like to know more about the library, please contact us.

Course: MUS-X 414 (graduate and undergraduate)

This year, the LAE will explore late 19th- and early 20th-century musical repertoire associated with the Cuban danzón, a genre that grew out of the contact of Spanish, French and English salon music with Afro-Cuban and Haitian musical influences.  The ensemble is particularly interested in performers who specialize in voice, violin, viola, cello, bass, and flute.
