LAE

Latin American Ensemble (LAE)

The LAMC proudly hosts the Latin American Ensemble (LAE).

Dedicated to the performance of Latin American repertoire, the ensemble explores original Latin American genres and their corresponding performance practices through arranging and performing pieces from both the popular and classical repertoire.

In order to perform an extended and large variety of repertoire from Latin American, the LAE often receives as guest faculty from Indiana University in addition to having its own arrangers and composers in residence. In the past, LAE has received top names in Latin American music as guests perform with and coach the ensemble including include musicians such as Aquiles Báez, Jorge Gomez, Pablo Aslan, Jovino Santos Neto, and Pablo Ziegler among many others.

The LAE has its own performing library with original music and arrangements especially crafted for the ensemble. If you would like to know more about the library, please contact us.

Exploring Colonial repertoire

This year the Latin American Ensemble will explore the intersection of European classical music with the colonization of the New World.  Vocal and instrumental repertoire will be chosen from both European composers working in the New World, and native composers, from the 17th through 19th centuries.

No prior historical performance experience required, but rehearsals will be approached in a chamber music setting as a chance to explore stylistic and cultural context.  Period instruments will be utilized where appropriate.

Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30-3:45, and Fridays 3:35-6:00 in MA B012.  Once personnel is defined, musicians will receive a comprehensive schedule- not all rehearsal times will be required for every member of the ensemble.  Fall semester concert is Friday, November 30th at 8:00 pm in Auer Hall.  Concert date availability is a requirement for this course.
