Latin American Ensemble (LAE)

The LAMC proudly hosts the Latin American Ensemble (LAE).

Dedicated to the performance of Latin American repertoire, the ensemble explores original Latin American genres and their corresponding performance practices through arranging and performing pieces from both the popular and classical repertoire.

In order to perform an extended and large variety of repertoire from Latin American, the LAE often receives as guest faculty from Indiana University in addition to having its own arrangers and composers in residence. In the past, LAE has received top names in Latin American music as guests perform with and coach the ensemble including include musicians such as Aquiles Báez, Jorge Gomez, Pablo Aslan, Jovino Santos Neto, and Pablo Ziegler among many others.

The LAE has its own performing library with original music and arrangements especially crafted for the ensemble. If you would like to know more about the library, please contact us.

MUS-X 414: Latin American Ensemble
The Latin American Ensemble consists of two musical groups comprised of undergraduate and graduate
students from the IU Jacobs School of Music. The first group, Soneros de la Caliza, plays a style of music
from Cuba known as Son, which is vocal, guitar, and percussion oriented music that developed in Cuba's
countryside. The second group, Orquesta Escuela Vieja, plays Cuban Danzón, Charanga, and Chachacha.
The LAE counts as an ensemble credit and can accommodate a variety of instruments and voices. If would like more information about the ensemble, please its director, Joseph Galvin, at jgalvin@indiana.edu
