Brass

Focus your studies on brass

Whether you want to perform as part of an orchestra or a band, teach the next generation of brass instrumentalists or join academia, you can pursue your musical dreams here.

We offer undergraduate and graduate academic programs focusing on five brass instruments: the euphonium, horn, trombone, trumpet, and tuba.

You’ll study with some of the finest musicians in the world, in a studio where every student is as passionate about and dedicated to their studies as you are.

Study with inspiring brass faculty

As a student here, you’ll learn from and study with world-renowned faculty members. They’ve performed with major orchestras and as featured soloists. Recorded with top artists. And taught at many distinguished universities and conservatories.

Now they’re dedicated to helping you develop the skills you need to take your place among the best brass players around.

Jacobs is on a college campus in a beautiful town. My years in Bloomington enabled me to immerse myself in my studies without the distractions and daily grind of living in a major city. I was among amazing student musicians. Their drive and commitment were an inspiration to me.

Chris Botti, Grammy Award-winning trumpet soloist, Jacobs alumnus

Perform on a regular basis

The Jacobs community generates more than 1,100 performances each academic year—and you’ll be among the players.

We’re home to more than two dozen student bands, orchestras, and choral ensembles, giving you the freedom to explore. March in the Marching Hundred. Play in the Philharmonic Orchestra. Become a member of the Brass Choir. Or find some like-minded peers and form your own performance group.

There are no limits to the opportunities waiting for you here.

Educational opportunities for children

You can start your Jacobs musical education beginning in middle school through our Young Winds program.

You’ll take weekly group lessons from Jacobs faculty and students, and even have the opportunity to perform as part of a band.
