Things to Do Before you Apply

The Indiana University Website is full of information and resources on how to find out more information on the school including student housing, campus facilities, and organizations.

Bloomington is a wonderfully rich city.  You may wish to explore the community and what it has to offer.

From here you may wish to travel to Bloomington and have a lesson with Professor Strommen or Roe, tour the Jacobs School of Music, meet students, or sit in on classes and rehearsals.

Professor Strommen also teaches across the country, most regularly during the summer at the Interlochen Advanced Oboe Institute, Interlochen Arts Camp, MasterWorks Festival, John Mack Oboe Camp and Domaine Forget.  She would encourage you to apply to any of these festivals to have an opportunity to work with her.

Application Process

The first step will be to collect and submit the necessary materials by the deadline given on the admissions website.  After your materials have been processed, you can then be scheduled for an audition date.

It is recommended you make travel arrangements as soon as possible due to the volume of applicants (especially at the later audition dates). There are numerous places to stay in Bloomington - if you would like to be on campus you can stay in the Biddle Hotel at the IU Memorial Union.

The Audition Day

Check in procedures will be communicated through the School of Music Admissions Office.  There will be practice rooms reserved for your use in the Music Annex and Practice Buildings.

About an hour prior to your audition, check in with the Oboe Studio by visiting Professor Roe's Studio (MA168).  This space also serves as a warm-up and storage room. A current student of the studio will be there to answer any questions you may have. Ten minutes prior your scheduled time, one of our students will escort you to the audition room.

If you have any further questions on the application or audition process, feel free to contact Ms. Strommen.  You can find her contact information in the Contact Us section.
