BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The second annual Steve Zegree Vocal Jazz Camp at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will offer free performances June 23-27.
The public is invited to attend live performances of camp attendees performing solo standards with a jazz trio nightly, Monday, June 23, through Thursday, June 26, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Bear's Place on East Third Street.
The camp’s final concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27, in the Musical Arts Center on the IU Bloomington campus and is also free and open to the public.
An internationally recognized camp faculty includes Darmon Meader (New York Voices), Cedric Dent (Take 6), Duane Davis, Michael Wheaton and Jacobs faculty Betsy Burleigh, Ly Wilder and Steve Zegree, the camp’s artistic director. Jacobs professor Jeff Nelsen and IU African American Choral Ensemble director Raymond Wise will make special faculty appearances.
The camp includes 40 high school and college students and teachers from throughout the United States as well as from Canada and Europe. Each participant will take classes in solo and group jazz singing, jazz theory, jazz improvisation and daily master classes on a variety of subjects.
