FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 30, 2014
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Two live tapings of the nationally syndicated radio show "Says You!" will take place in Bloomington this weekend, May 3 and 4.
The tapings will feature performances by award-winning Jacobs School of Music student ensembles the Kenari Saxophone Quartet and the Wasmuth String Quartet.
Two leading members of the Bloomington arts community, Will Murphy from WFIU and Miah Michaelsen from the City of Bloomington, have also been invited to participate.
The Saturday, May 3, show at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, featuring the Kenari Quartet, is sold out.
Tickets to the Sunday, May 4, taping at 1 p.m. in Auer Hall are still available from the Buskirk-Chumley Theater box office. The event will feature the Wasmuth Quartet and include a special question-and-answer session with host Richard Sher and panelists.
Led by Sher, "Says You!" is described as a "game show of bluff and bluster, words and whimsy" and is played by two three-person teams in front of live, enthusiastic audiences.
For nearly two decades, the program has offered listeners some of the best quips, quotes and questions that public radio has to offer, all scored to the rhythms and melodies of musical guest performers.
Sher has dubbed the Bloomington round of live tapings as "Hoosier Dada—Abstract Wit and Wordplay from 'Says You!'"
Team members from the show include Barry Nolan, Francine Achbar, Tony Kahn, Arnie Reisman and Carolyn Faye Fox. Murphy and Michaelsen will stand in as replacements (on Saturday and Sunday, respectively) for Paula Lyons, who cannot make the Bloomington events.
The sessions will find their way to public radio listeners across the country in the coming months.
"Says You!" airs on WFIU at noon every Saturday. Because of strong listener support, the station recently expanded the weekly program from 30 minutes to an hour.
