The Glenn Gass Scholarship
Provost Professor of Music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Glenn Gass, teaches a series of courses on the history of rock & roll and popular music. Professor Gass has been the recipient of numerous awards, inlcuding the Herman B Wells Lifetime Achievement Award, the Indiana University Sylvia Bowman Distinguished Teaching Award, the IU student Alumni Association Student Choice Award, and the Soceity of Professional Journalists Brown Derby Award. Having been inducted into the Falculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching, Professor Gass authored A History of Rock Music and The Rock & Roll Era, and he is a current member of the Education Advisory Board for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. He has also recieved grants for his compositions from the National Endowment for the Arts, Meet the Composer, and the Indiana Arts Commission.
P.A. Mack, Jr., a friend of Gass, audited his classes and wishes to honor Professor Gass for his exemplary teaching, which he experience firsthand. P.A. created this fund, believing in the importance of the educational mission of the Jacobs School of Music and the inspiration the Gass creates in his students. This scholarship is used to support one undergraduate student per year in the Jacobs School based off of merit and financial need.
