String Academy

Welcome to the String Academy

The String Academy is open to students between the ages of 5 -18 who wish to study the violin, viola and cello through a curriculum that includes private and group lessons, theory and master classes, chamber music, and performance opportunities. Instruction is based upon the methods and philosophies of Mimi Zweig, Shinichi Suzuki, and Paul Rolland. Parents are an important part of the early years of study; they attend all lessons and support the daily practice.

The special training, experience and expertise of the outstanding faculty in the musical education of young people results in students playing with technical ease and musical sensitivity. String Academy students who have taken the path of becoming musicians are now performing and teaching throughout the world. All students attain skills of concentration, develop a sense of high self-esteem, and keep with them a joy and love for music that remains forever.

Dear Students and Parents:

We want to give you a head's up and are now looking ahead to a six-week Summer Session Two that will take place June 15 to July 24, 2020. It looks like we will not be able to access the JSoM and will continue teaching online. I can say that I began this adventure with trepidation, but after many weeks I see that students are making excellent progress. We still have no knowledge of whether we will be able to return to one-on-one in the fall.

We are welcoming to our faculty Hasun Yoo. She began teaching at the age of fifteen and has taught in England, China, South Korea, California, and Indiana. In 2015-2016, Hasun worked in Harbin, China serving as a music teacher at the Wanbang International School, where she taught K-12 students. Currently, Hasun is pursuing her master's degree in violin performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music under Prof. Mimi Zweig. We wish our departing faculty all the best, Monica Chen and Michele Barbosa.

Best wishes, Mimi Zweig
