(*Instructors will not be allowed to continue lessons unless paid in full by the second week of lessons*).



Required Forms 

Please read carefully as the procedure has changed for the Academic Year 2019-2020:

Before the first class, you must sign and submit required safety and liability forms. Formerly, those forms were accessible on the Jacobs School of Music website. Now, the only way to access the two required forms is through your Confirmation of Registration which is automatically emailed to you after enrolling with the online registration form.

Only the parent/guardian may complete these forms and submit them to Indiana University using one of the following methods (fax and mail are no longer accepted methods):

  1. A parent/guardian may submit forms in person to the Program Director or Assigned Teacher at their child’s first pre-college class of the academic year OR
  2. Before the first class, a parent/guardian may email forms to the secure IU BOX HEALTH folder for their program. The link is provided in the Confirmation of Registration mentioned above. Only email these forms to the IU BOX HEALTH folder, and please attach as a single PDF document with a file name of: CHILD’S LAST NAME, CHILD’S FIRST NAME.

Financial Aid (Fall and Spring semesters only)

**Please Note: There is NO Financial aid offered during the Summer.

  • Financial aid is limited to 10% of tuition.
  • Financial Aid may be awarded to families who have a total family income under $35,000 per year or have a student that currently qualify for his or her school’s free or reduced price lunch program. For information about whether or not you qualify for the Indiana Free Lunch Program, please CLICK HERE.
  • International students may apply for a merit-based awards but are not eligible for financial aid. Only U.S. citizens and Permanent Legal Residents may apply for financial aid.

Step 1:

Use the online registration procedure to create your student record. Tuition payment is not required at this time. Pay only the registration fee and financial aid fee at this time. Upon completion of the $25 payment,go to Step 2.

Step 2:

Download the financial aid application CLICK HERE and mail the following 3 items below to the address on the financial aid application.

  • Completed Financial Aid Application
  • Photocopies of parent/guardian's most recent signed Federal Tax Form 1040
  • Copies of W2s

Step 3:

Once the tuition waiver has been determined, families will be contacted by email and given further instruction. At that time, you will be able to return to the student's record using the same user name and password, and pay remaining fees.

Student may begin lessons while financial aid is being determined. If no financial aid is awarded, the entire amount will be owed.

Courtesy Discounts for multiple siblings

The String Academy offers a $25 discount per child if the family enrolls 3 or more students from the same family at once. If you would like to be considered for a family discount, please mark the discount section on your application accordingly.

**Please note: discounts are NOT automatically applied to accounts when this option is chosen, but are subject to approval by the Program Director and the Special Programs office. You may delay your payment until any requested discount is approved. You will be emailed upon approval. Contact with questions.


Refund Policy

  • There is a $50.00 processing fee on all tuition refunds.
  • If a student has committed himself for the semester and the teacher has reserved the time slot, and if school has begun, no more than 50% of the tuition will be reimbursed after week two.
  • After week six, no tuition will be refunded.
  • If a student must leave the String Academy due to health reasons, the refund will be up to the discretion of the director.
