Melinda Baird

Pianist Melinda Lambert Baird enriches the musical world with her blend of sensitivity, passion, and warmth. Her performances have taken her to Paris, Salzburg, Banff, Israel, both US coasts, and Carnegie's Weill Hall. The Dallas Morning News calls her playing "poetic and tasteful" and the Ft. Worth Star Telegram declared her music "fiery (yet) luscviously voiced." The Deseret News stated her perforamnce to be "spectacularly detailed playing, in which her technical work was top-notch, and produced a brilliant clairy and plenty of big-hall spaciousness." An avid chamber player, Melinda has collaborated with members of the Baltimore Symphony, Chicago Symphony and Indianapolis Symphony. Melinda has played as a soloist with the Utah Symphony, Spokane Symphony, F.t Collins Symphony, and others.

Dr. Baird currently serves as Director of Piano Programs at the Levine School of Music in Washington DC, where she coaches chamber music and teaches private piano students ranging in age from eight to one hundred. Melinda formerly served as Chair of Piano at Levine, and Artistic Director of the Honors program. Her students have won national and international awards, and have performed in the Embassies of France, Austria, Italy, Mexico, Luxembourg, and Netherlands. In addition to her work at Levine, Melinda is Director of Education and Community outreach for Steinway & Sons in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area. A strong advocate of music education, Dr. Baird also teaches the Baltimore Symphony pre-concert lectures at the Music Center at Strathmore.

Melinda received a doctorate in Piano Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music under the mentorship of Menahem Pressler, and served as his assistant for five years. A Chancellor’s Fellow at Indiana, Melinda was also one of two university-wide recipients of the John Edwards Fellowship for Leadership and Service. Melinda’s latest solo CD on Encore Classics,
