Summer 2019 (for reference): July 15 - July 26

We proudly announce the 2019 Edward Auer Summer Workshop, to take place at the Jacobs School of Music in July. It is our honor to have once again the distinguished pianists Jerome Lowenthal and Peter Bithell. We regret that Veda Kaplinsky, for personal reasons, will be unable to come this summer. She has promised to join us next year.

AUER Workshop: Then and Now

The Edward AUER Workshop began as a Chopin Class more than 20 years ago with a single teacher. Now there will be more than 10 internationally active musicians joining the workshop to guide and inspire participants.

Since 2015, the AUER workshop has offered ONLINE participation and auditing. We welcome anybody who is interested from all over the world!

Solo Competition:

Senior Devision: ages 18 and over - minimum 20 minutes of repertoire requirements: One virtuosic etude and one lyrical piece should be included.

Junior Devision: under 18 - minimum 10 minutes of repertoire requirements: One lyrical piece should be included.

First place winner(s) of the Solo Competition will be invited to the 2020 AUER Workshop to perform a solo recital. This summer 2018 junior winners Allison Kim and Soo Yoon Cho and senior winners Daniel Kalduński will come to Bloomington to perform.

Concerto Competition:

The 2019 Edward AUER Summer Piano Workshop will present TWO Piano Concertos with two winners from the concerto competition. JSoM conducting professor Arthur Fagen will conduct this concert.

Concerto Competition Repertoire Choices: You may enter only one category

Category 1: Mozart Concerto: K. 271, K. 482, K. 466, K. 467,  K. 595

Category 2: All Beethoven concertos, both Chopin concertos, both Mendelssohn concertos, Schumann concerto

Those wishing to compete must send a recording for pre-screening, along with their application, by April 30, 2019.

Entrance Audition for JSoM

Audition for the Jacobs School of Music in June and save a trip during the year! (except for DM and AD programs). We must receive your pre-screening recording by May 10.

Master Classes and Individual Lessons

Study with internationally active pianists and learn from talented peers! There will be more than 8 master classes and a total of more than 160 individual lessons.

Concerts and Valuable Friendships

Numerous master classes by Workshop faculty members and guest solo and chamber artists. Get to know these artists closely and mingle with other participants at the master classes, concerts, and parties!
