Lisa Hasson is associate professor of music in choral conducting and faculty director of opera choruses at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

As chorus master, coach, and program director, she has garnered wide-ranging experience and expertise working for opera companies and universities throughout the United States.

In 2004, Hasson embarked on a long tenure with the Des Moines Metro Opera, and in 2007, became what is now its Irene Graether Director of the Apprentice Artist Program and Chorus Master. She has prepared well over 50 productions with the company, to great critical acclaim. From annual national auditions, she casts the 40 members of the Frank R. Brownell III Apprentice Artist Program, one of the most prestigious and oldest opera training programs in the country.

From 2008 to 2025, Hasson was music director and coach of Kentucky Opera’s Sanford Studio Artist Program, a high-level training program for emerging artists. In 2011, she became chorus master for the company and prepared almost 40 productions. The high-quality reputation of the ensemble was established under her leadership.

She has been a guest chorus master for The Atlanta Opera and returned there last spring to prepare several productions. She has also worked for Sarasota Opera, New Orleans Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Dayton Opera, Opera North, Opera Nevada, Utah Festival Opera, Berkshire Opera, Opera Birmingham, Knoxville Opera, Ash-Lawn Highland Summer Festival, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis.

Hasson has served as opera faculty at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music since 2017. She has prepared workshops for Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion: New Works. Previously, she was principal opera coach at Miami University (Ohio). She has been a guest for programs at Florida Grand Opera, the University of Kentucky, William Jewel College, Boston Conservatory, Michigan State University, and AIMS in Graz.

Hasson received a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from McGill University and studied under Dixie Ross Neill. She engaged in further studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and The National Opera Studio, both in London.
