About Project Jumpstart
Project Jumpstart is a student leadership team that offers high-impact programming for Jacobs School students, including career development and entrepreneurship workshops, networking events, student competitions, and residencies by prominent arts entrepreneurs.
The 2019-2020 Project Jumpstart team: Nate Bomans, Zach Finnegan, Kari Novilla, and Elizabeth Yao.
Our mission is to empower, facilitate, and support entrepreneurial, innovative
thought and action among Jacobs School of Music students as they prepare for
a meaningful life in the arts.
Through our vision, we strive to be a leading catalyst of entrepreneurial, innovative action through
presentations, workshops, discussions, networking events, conferences and publications. Central
to these initiatives are partnerships with student groups and ensembles, Jacobs School departments,
the IU Bloomington community, as well as organizations and creative individuals in the City of
Bloomington and beyond.
Project Jumpstart is a part of the Jacobs School of Music Office of Entrepreneurship and Career Development, and partners with the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the Kelley School of Business.
History of Project Jumpstart
Author and nationally recognized career specialist Angela Beeching launched Project Jumpstart in 2010 as a student-centered and student-driven career and entrepreneurial leadership program. Beeching continued in a mentoring role in 2011 with coordinator Peter Thoresen, who expanded the program's offerings. Project Jumpstart was further developed for a year by Lindsay Medina. Now in its seventh year, the program is directed by Alain Barker, Director of Entrepreneurship and Career Development.
