Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
Counselor-in-Residence Program

The Jacobs School of Music has partnered with the IU Health Center’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to staff a counselor onsite at the Jacobs School part-time.

Brad Stepp, a clinical psychologist with the IU Health Center, is stationed at Jacobs 20 hours per week. Students will still make appointments through the Health Center, but Stepp also will have drop-in hours and will spend time conducting outreach, such as educational seminars and workshops for students.


  • Individual counseling by appointment for Jacobs students
  • Same-day consultation for urgent situations for Jacobs students
  • Faculty/staff consultations and outreach/programming for Jacobs faculty/staff

Brad Stepp, H.S.P.P., earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and has more than 10 years of experience working with a variety of individuals from all walks of life. He has been licensed to practice independently since 2010.

After completing his doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University, he moved to Bloomington in 2010, accepting a staff psychologist position at IU’s Counseling and Psychological Services.
