We believe that music education can benefit everyone, regardless of major or career plans.
We offer courses covering a wide range of musical styles, cultures, and eras, designed for all students, regardless of musical background or training. You can also take private lessons or join an ensemble.
Whether you’ve been studying music for years or you’ve simply always wanted to play, we can help you meet your goals.
You can earn credit and take lessons with Jacobs faculty or graduate students and tailor your studies to suit you.
To register, just sign up for the MUS Z110 course that corresponds to the instrument you want to study.
Group lessons are also available.
There are several all-campus ensembles that welcome any and all IU students: the All-Campus Band, All-Campus Choir, All-Campus Guitar Ensemble, and All-Campus Orchestra.
These ensembles do not require an audition. To participate, register in X001.
You can also audition for a Jacobs ensemble. If you would like to join one of these groups, register for X040 or X070 and participate in the audition process.
You can add a music minor to your degree—even if you’re not a Jacobs student.
The music minor can be tailored to your interests and include performance in an ensemble, if you wish.
